Flower Report For May

This past month saw a few new products populating our stock room and as we take a look back and reminisce at the month that was, we’re reserving some energy for this month’s new drops hitting the OCS as this is being hammered out on my keyboard.

Starting with flower because this is after all the Flower Report, we saw fresh flower offerings from Ness, Next Friday, Bonfire Cannabis and Lotus Cannabis.

Ness dropped their new Grape Octane flower, a balanced hybrid sporting a strong genetic background of Grape Pie and High Octane OG. The grape elements are more robust in the pre-burning stage of this flower. Crack open the bag and your nose takes notice of the aroma of sweet fruit, spice with hits of grape and gas underneath. Dominant terpenes include limonene, caryophyllene and pinene so right from the get go, you can expect a fairly balanced experience. The batch we received tipped the THC scales at 31.5% THC and 3.68% terpenes which loosely translates to: great quality, tasty flower! In all seriousness though, Ness did a great job hunting down this spicy phenotype. Like all balanced hybrids, the smoking experience starts out innocently enough with a nice heady buzz that eventually gives way to something darker and heavy if you keep going.

Next up is Next Friday’s NFRI (Next Friday Research Institute) Mutant Tire Fire. Cultivation heads take note that Next Friday does all their tissue culture in house ensuring consistent growing conditions to the welcomingly high standards they have set for themselves and their flower produce. Hailing from a cross of GMO and Sherb Crasher, Next Friday’s Mutant Tire Fire is a funky conglomerate of GMO’s danker notes, Sherb Crasher’s heavier Indica influence with a” je ne sais quoi” that ranges from fuel to burning rubber to light cake and creamy notes. The current batch we have stocked is sitting at 30.3% THC and 3.9% terpenes featuring myrcene, caryophyllene and farnesene as the dominant terpenes present. Wonderfully complex with strength to boot, MTF delivers a balanced, albeit heavy blow best suited for hardcore chilling while watching a movie or some light gaming. But don’t take my word for it, cop an eighth of this flower before this rotational strain goes away and find out for yourself!!

Branching out from the GreenSeal family tree, we’ve recently acquainted ourselves with BONFIRE Craft Cannabis and their fresh offering of Golden Grape 3.5g flower and pre-rolls. The grow team at Bonfire crossed an OG Kush cut with an unknown in house indica and hunted down this grape forward phenotype. Given the OG Kush lineage, one can expect high THC, terpene rich flower delivering a sweet, fruity flavour profile underscored with notes of musty mango, sweet earth and hints of gas.

And last but certainly not least, we have the Lotus Key Lime Kush 3.5g flower. If there’s something familiar about these guys, you’d be right. They white labelled some of the first 30%+ batches of flower for the Canadian legal market back in 2020 with their Kalifornia flower and later on did their Tranquil Elephantizer flower for Kolab. All that said, these guys are very well acquainted to cultivating high potency, terpene rich flower. The Okanagan grow team is chock full of experience and they are not afraid to show it. Refreshingly transparent, the Lotus team provides public access to flower COA’s and links to Youtube videos of their grows. Needless to say, their Key Lime Kush flower was a delightful treat worthy of a second helping.

Our pre-roll menu saw some fresh offerings from Spinach and their Kiwi Lime Punch Indica pre-rolls, Wagner’s Grape Quake pre-rolls and a sweet El Blunto 0.75g El Bluntito Viva pre-roll blunt. The Kiwi Lime Punch 3-pack from Spinach delivers a nice, even keeled punch with a nice heavy finish. These are great for an afternoon staring at clouds whist making your own. The Wagner’s Grape Quake pre-roll pack is a solid choice for those looking for something with a little complexity to its flavour profile. Ranging from grape jelly to pastry like flavours and even some cheesy notes, the Grape Quake pre-rolls will leave you satisfied and quite stoned. And finally, if you’ve ever lit up a joint and realized about 3/4 of the way through that it might be a bit too much (but obviously you keep smoking it!), the 0.75g El Bluntito from the folks at El Blunto is the perfect solution! Not too big, not too small and packed with 30%+ THC, these blunts hit just right. The sativa forward flower showcases fruity, berry flavours with some citrus and gas for good measure. Tipped with a glass filter and packaged in a resealable glass jar, just in case the 0.75g size is a bit much, you can safely toss it in the jar and re-light it later on.

In other news, we’ve seen the removal of the high potency Glitches from Drift edibles. Being somewhat of a sticky, sensitive situation, the disappearance of these and a few other high potency packages of edibles have left many unanswered questions from consumers that we all hope to be addressed in the very near future. In the meantime however, some resourceful LP’s have brought some new products that may be of interest to the high potency edible consumers namely Aspire and their high Potency Moon Rocks 15pk (10mg THC/Moon Rock) and the Fly North Pomegranate Star Shower Lozenges 10pk (10mg THC/Lozenge). Both of these products have barely been in the store for a few hours and are already starting to move!!! Get these in your basket ASAP before it’s too late! Stay tuned for more product updates as new items are continuing to arrive at our provincial distributor, the OCS.
